A Perfect Connection: HABC and T-Mobile

Everyone seems to agree that daily technology use is just as routine as brushing one’s hair! Like so many people, HABC’s public housing residents and Housing Choice Voucher program participants need access to the Internet and technology. It’s integral to searching for employment, accessing financial or government services, and even helping kids complete their homework.

HABC’s Office of Resident Services and T-Mobile have partnered under HUD's “ConnectHome Initiative,” to help bridge the digital gap in some of Baltimore’s low-income communities.

HABC will offer 500 free T-Mobile tablets to public housing residents and Housing Choice Voucher Program participants who are enrolled in its Jobs Plus, PACE, My Goals and Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) workforce development programs during the month of August. HABC will provide funding for two years of service for each participant. The OneTouch tablets will connect to T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network. In addition, the devices will have a monthly data plan with 2GB of high-speed data and unlimited 2G/3G connectivity.

“The Housing Authority of Baltimore City’s vision is to build pathways for strong partnerships and provide opportunities so that the people we serve can achieve self-sufficiency,” said Director Abrahams. “Thanks to our partnership with T-Mobile and HUD’s ConnectHome initiative, we will fulfill our vision by giving families access to technology that will enable them to search for jobs, access financial or government services, and help their children with homework.”
