HUD's Smoke Free Policy

The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is requiring public housing authorities to develop and implement a policy prohibiting the use of prohibited tobacco products in their public housing living units and interior areas and other restricted areas. The Smoke-Free Policy, which goes into effect on July 30, 2018, is intended to improve indoor air quality, benefit the health of public housing residents and HABC staff, reduce the risk of fires, and lower overall maintenance costs. Public Housing residents and the public were informed of HUD's new policy at public meetings held by HABC over the past few months.
