The Gift of Love Program Brings the Magic of the Season to HABC Families

When you talk to Harriet Johnson about the Gift of Love project, you can’t help but notice her commitment to the people she serves. It hasn’t changed since the project first launched 15 years ago. The program began when a small group of HABC employees decided to partner with local vendors to share the magic of the holidays with public housing and Housing Choice Voucher Program families. “The Gift of Love project embodies the spirit of HABC’s Four Cs,” said Executive Director Janet Abrahams. “Through communication and collaboration, we are providing awesome customer service and bringing joy to the people we serve in the community.”

Every year, a committee meets and recommends families from public housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program. The mission is to provide gifts to children ages 0-12 to help make the holiday season merry and bright. Once families are identified, tags and stockings are created and hung on a special tree for sponsors to select.

Thanks to the generosity of HABC staff and friends, more than 120 families will benefit from the Gift of Love project this year. On December 18th, the Housing Choice Voucher Program will transport the many gifts of love to the selected families. “It really feels good doing good things for our residents. Over the years people have grown to appreciate what we do, and we are thankful,” said Harriet.
