McCulloh Homes Playground Build Recap Video!

A playground is more than a playground. It’s a brain-expander, friend-maker, and muscle-builder. Play is central to a child’s ability to grow into a productive adult. It can transform children from sedentary, bored and solitary to physically, mentally and socially active.

More than 200 volunteers from the Housing Authority of Baltimore City (HABC), Resident Services, Inc., organizers from KaBOOM! (@kaboom), and the community joined forces on a Saturday in late August to give area kids the childhood they deserve by building a new playground at McCulloh Homes. The design is based on children’s drawings created at a special design event earlier in June.

The new playground brings more than 500 kids in Baltimore one step closer to having the play-filled childhood they deserve. In building this playspace together, we are making it easier for all kids to get balanced and active play and making Baltimore more playable.

Before building this playspace, McCulloh Homes did not have a designated space for the youth that live in the community to play. There weren’t any play grounds or other recreational equipment for the youth to utilize without them having to travel to other areas of the community.

We would like to thank Kaboom! as well as all the donors, contractors, vendors and volunteers. This playground build would not have been possible with your help!
